Educational Visits - Frequently asked questions

The subsidised, escorted, educational visit to uShaka Sea World lasts for 2.5 hours.  A course lasts four hours including the visit to uShaka Sea World. 

The school needs to book a guiding for one of the following times: 09h00, 10h00, 11h00 or 12h00.

The school needs to book a course for either 09h00 or 10h00.

Groups that arrive early will be asked to wait outside the gate until their booked time slot.

Groups that arrive late for booked tours will be accommodated on the next time slot that becomes available, in order to accommodate the set number for any given time in uShaka Sea World.

Should a group arrive with numbers in excess of the booked number, the excess numbers will only be permitted access if they do not exceed the maximum number of learners permitted in uShaka Sea World at the time.

The school group will be assisted by an Education Guide for the duration of their visit to uShaka Sea World. Your visit will follow a set programme to ensure the best educational value, and will include the:

  • Penguin Rookery
  • Dolphin Lookout
  • Turtle Beach
  • Aquarium

There are other activities such as snorkelling. There are separate charges for these.

An area may be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. 

Learners are required to wear school uniform for easy identification in the park so that they do not get lost and get left behind!

One educator per 20 learners will be admitted at no charge to supervise the learners for the full duration of the visit. One further Educator per 20 learners will be admitted at the Senior school rate.

Educators are expected to accompany and supervise their groups at all times during their visit to uShaka Sea World.

No additional adults may accompany the group without prior permission being obtained.

Learners are expected to be considerate towards the rest of the public in uShaka Marine World.

Groups on an education concession visit to uShaka Sea World may not access the shopping area during this visit. This can be done as a group before or after the visit.

Education concessions for uShaka Sea World operate from Tuesday to Thursday out of season. 

Your learners may bring a home-packed lunch that can only be eaten in a designated area at uShaka Sea World. The public may not come in with food so the same applies to schools e.g. two-litre cold-drinks, chips and take-aways are not permitted.

You are welcome to eat in the Village Walk before or after your visit to uShaka Sea World.

No straws are permitted inside uShaka Sea World.

The uShaka food and beverage staff can organise lunches. Ask about their school menu and prices. Tel: +27 31 328 8064

For pre-primary schools the ratio of adults to learners is 1:20 at no charge and 1:5 at the school price.

For primary and senior schools the ratio of adults to learners is 1:20 at no charge and 1:20 at school price.

No additional adults may accompany the group without prior permission being obtained as this may impact on the educational experience of the group.

The whole group, including the adults, is expected to stay together for the entire tour.

Please note that swimwear is required for snorkelling– swimming in underwear is not permitted.

Teachers’ workshops are presented at no charge. At these workshops teachers are given ideas for activities and resources. Please visit the “Resources” page.

Directions for Buses:

Drop off

  • Enter at the Bell Street access and drop passengers outside the Education Centre.
  • Follow the road around the building to the traffic circle, right into uShaka Avenue and left at the end of the car park.
  • Pass Parkade A and turn left into Camperdown Road and follows signs to parking.

Collect

  • To return, travel down Camperdown Road and right into Shepstone Road.
  • Turn right into Bell Street and back in through the same access on Bell Street.
